      <title>Activity Overview</title>
      <description>&lt;font face="Verdana, sans-serif"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Learning Objectives&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;To introduce students to genre of storytelling&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;To teach students that everyone has an important story to share with the world&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;To introduce students to multimedia technology (audio, video, photography, PNN web pages) and using multimedia to support student discovery and hands-on learning&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;To connect with and learn about students from various cultures&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;To practice skill of posing and responding to (in written and verbal forms) questions in English (sentence structure, questioning, grammar, mechanics, etc.)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;To build a supportive, interactive learning community where students co-construct knowledge&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Materials&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Computers&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Digital audio recording device, video camera, photo camera&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Index cards&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;pens, pencils, paper&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;b&gt;Time&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;approximately one hour&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;b&gt;Activity #1&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Students will work in pairs.&amp;nbsp; Each pair will receive a small stack of index cards.&amp;nbsp; Each card will pose a different question.&amp;nbsp; Students will randomly select cards and will respond to the questions, first as a verbal Pair/Share, then in written form.&amp;nbsp; If students select a question to which they do not wish to respond, they may simply select an alternate card.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;GOAL: a.&amp;nbsp; Students will respond (in written form) to as many questions as time will allow.&amp;nbsp; b. Each student should craft an individual response to each question.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;After students have written their responses, they should check in with the teacher or Lauren for grammar/mechanics/sentence structure support.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;b&gt;Activity #2&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;While students are working on the above activity, Lauren should select three students to oversee the multimedia stations, which are as follows:&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;audio station&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;video station&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;photography station&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;2.&amp;nbsp; Each pair will rotate to as many stations as time allows to complete the following tasks:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Audio&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Students may record responses to their questions using a digital audio recorder.&amp;nbsp; Students are encouraged to share their responses in both English and their native languages.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Students will think of a question or questions that they would like to ask students from other places- these questions will be sent to a classroom in Poland as well as some other classrooms in other countries and communities (possibly Ghana, definitely San Francisco international students, etc.).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Video: Students will share their responses in video format (same process as above for both Steps 1 and 2).&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Photography: Students will be photographed so that their photographs may be posted on the PNN La Puente webpages next to their written and audio/video responses.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;b&gt;Rotation Format&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;The rotation format should work if there are approximately 6-8 students at one station at a time.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</description>
